The second phase of development for the Competence Centre for Mechatronics and Clean Technologies—known as MIRACle—has officially begun. This phase is launched under Project BG16RFPR002-1.014-0019-C01, focusing on the sustainable development of the Centre.
The Competence Centre (CC MIRACle) was established in 2019 under the "Science and Education for Smart Growth 2014-2020" Operational Programme. During its initial phase, the Centre received BGN 17.5 million in funding, which supported infrastructure construction, equipment procurement, the formation of scientific teams, and applied research activities.
On August 12, 2025, an Administrative Contract was signed between CC MIRACle and the "Education Programme" Executive Agency. Funded under the "Research, Innovation and Digitalization for Smart Transformation 2021-2027" Programme, this second phase provides over BGN 9.3 million in grant funding.
The project will be implemented by a consortium led by the Institute of Mechanics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). The partnership network includes the Technical University of Sofia, Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov University – Burgas, the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (BAS), the Central Laboratory of Solar Energy and New Energy Sources (BAS), Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", the University of Finance, Business and Entrepreneurship (VUZF), the GIS Transfer Center, and the newly established MIRACle Association.
The primary objective of the project is to build an effective partnership network between the Centre and high-tech companies through the technology transfer of innovative research and applied products. These activities will be actively supported by the MIRACle Association.
Within the project's framework, at least 20 joint initiatives with businesses will be implemented, alongside active participation in various national and European programs. CC MIRACle plans to conduct significant research in fields such as mechatronics, robotics, biomechatronics, and intelligent systems. This research is expected to result in over 120 scientific publications, 10 patents, and 5 utility models.
By its completion on December 31, 2029, CC MIRACle aims to solidify its position as an internationally recognized research hub and a benchmark of excellence in the fields of mechatronics and clean technologies.
